Oral-B built the iO2 for people moving from a manual brush, and it shows. It’s simpler, softer and lighter in feel than the rest of the iO family. On Amazon US it cost about $60 on October 30, and a Limited pack with a travel case about $70.
A different motor
This catches people out. The iO2 isn’t a cut-down iO3. Electric Teeth notes it uses what Oral-B calls a linear pulse drive rather than the frictionless magnetic drive in the iO3 and up. It still uses iO heads and the round-head cleaning style, but the motion is softer. For someone coming from a manual brush, that’s a feature. For someone who wants the most vigorous Oral-B clean, it’s a step down.
Pressure: it slows down and shows red
Press too hard and the iO2 slows itself down. It signals red as well, but there’s no ring of light confirming when your pressure is right, as the iO3 has. It protects you without asking you to watch anything, which is lovely for beginners and older users. The downside is that you don’t learn as clearly what the right pressure feels like.
Battery
This is the iO2’s standout. It has the longest battery life in the iO range, which several UK reviewers have highlighted. The trade-off is charging time: a full charge can take up to around a day.

Heads and running costs
Same iO heads as every other iO, so the same higher head cost. Gentle Care heads suit it best.

iO2 or iO3?
If the two are within $15 of each other, we’d buy the iO3 for the stronger motor and the pressure light. If you’re buying for someone nervous about electric brushes, or who forgets to charge, the iO2. Full breakdown in iO2 vs iO3.
What $60 gets you
The iO2 listing we track on Amazon US (ASIN B0D1D7Y6V2, Pure White, first listed July 1, 2024) includes the handle, one iO head and a charger. Oral-B also sells an iO2 “Limited” pack with a travel case; the basic pack has none. At about $60 when we checked on October 30, it’s the cheapest way into iO heads, and it was sold by Amazon.com.
Three settings, starting gentle
You get Super Sensitive, Gentle and Daily Clean, and Oral-B says the brush starts on the super-sensitive setting. That default matters more than it sounds. The first few days with any Oral-B can feel intense, and new owners who find it too much tend to press harder to “control” it, which is the opposite of what you want. Starting soft and stepping up after a week avoids that.
One button, no menus
The iO2 has a single button and no display or app. For a parent, a first-time user or anyone who doesn’t want to think about modes, that’s a feature. For someone who likes tracking and data, it’s the wrong brush; look at the iO5.
What the listing leaves out
Oral-B gives no battery figure in days for the iO2, only that it’s long-lasting. Its listing also doesn’t mention the micro-vibrations Oral-B highlights on the iO3 and iO5, which fits with the iO2 feeling simpler and gentler. Neither is a reason to avoid it; they’re reasons not to expect an iO3 for $50 less.
Heads and the cost of owning it
The iO2 takes every iO head. Gentle Care heads, the natural match, were about $12.20 each in a four-pack on Amazon US; Ultimate Clean about $10.20 in a five-pack. With one head in the box, three years come to roughly $170 to $195 depending on which you buy. If cost is the deciding factor, the Pro 1000 is cheaper to run.
iO2 or Sonicare 4100?
They sit at similar prices and suit similar people. The 4100 is sonic, rated at up to 14 days per charge, and its July 2026 version adds three intensities and an EasyStart ramp. The iO2 is Oral-B’s round head with a gentler start. If you already know you like the Oral-B feel, get the iO2. If you don’t know, the 4100 is the safer bet for sensitive teeth.
Getting used to an Oral-B
If you’re coming from a manual brush, change the technique as well as the brush. Don’t scrub. Hold the round head against each tooth for a second or two, follow the curve of the tooth up to the gumline, then move on. The iO2’s 30-second pacer tells you when to move to the next quarter of your mouth. Within a week it stops feeling like a machine and starts feeling like your teeth stay clean longer.
A thoughtful entry model that does exactly what it set out to do: make switching to electric easy. It’s our pick for beginners and gentle brushers. Everyone else should look at the iO3 first.
What else you might buy

Are the cheap heads on Amazon counterfeit?
Some are. Fakes concentrate in third-party multipacks of Oral-B and Sonicare heads, and the tell is usually bristles that splay inside a month and a collar that rocks on the shaft.
What we checkedWhen we searched for Bitvae D2 refills on October 30, Amazon US showed only third-party packs and no brand store listing.

Oral-B or Sonicare? They feel nothing alike.
They are two different jobs. Oral-B polishes one tooth at a time with a small spinning head. Sonicare vibrates a normal-shaped head and cleans more by sweep than by scrub. Pick the one you will still be using in March.
What we checkedTrials give the oscillating style a small edge on plaque. Owner reviews give Sonicare the edge on comfort and noise. Both beat a manual brush.

Odds and ends worth knowing
Yes. It’s gentle, simple and has a long battery. It’s a strong first electric toothbrush.
Does the iO2 have a pressure sensor?
Yes, but it works by slowing the brush down rather than lighting up.
Do iO2 heads fit other iO brushes?
Yes. All iO models use the same iO heads.
Does the iO2 come with a travel case?
Not in the basic pack. Oral-B’s iO2 Limited pack adds one.
Is the iO2 good for sensitive teeth?
Yes. It starts on Super Sensitive, and its pressure sensor slows the brush when you push too hard.
