The iO3 exists to answer one question: how little can you spend and still get the good Oral-B? The answer is “not much,” especially when it’s on sale, which is often.
What makes an iO different
Classic Oral-B brushes drive the head through gears. The iO range uses a magnetic drive that moves the round head with less friction, and Oral-B adds what it calls micro-vibrations. The practical effect is easy to describe: it’s much quieter, and the handle doesn’t rattle in your hand. Cleaning still feels like Oral-B, tooth by tooth, but smoother. People who gave up on Oral-B because it felt like a power tool usually like the iO.
The pressure ring is the real feature
Around the neck sits a light that glows green when your pressure is in range and red when you’re pressing too hard. You can see it in the mirror without trying. For anyone with gum recession, sensitivity or a heavy hand, this is the most useful feature on any toothbrush, and the iO3 is the cheapest Oral-B that has it.
Modes
Three: Daily Clean, Sensitive and Whitening. Sensitive slows things down for tender gums. Whitening varies the speed to polish. Most people will live on Daily Clean. Unlike higher iO models, there’s no display and no app, which keeps it simple.

Battery and charging
Expect about two weeks of twice-daily use. The magnetic stand is neat, though a full charge from empty takes many hours, so it’s better left on the stand than charged in a rush. Some bundles include a travel case; check the listing.
The cost of iO heads
iO heads only fit iO handles. Genuine Ultimate Clean heads were about $10.20 each in a five-pack on Amazon US on October 30, and Gentle Care about $12.20 in a four-pack. Over three years that adds up to more than the brush.

Who should pick something else
- If running cost matters most: the Pro 1000 cleans nearly as well with cheaper heads.
- If even the iO3 feels too intense: the iO2 is gentler and slows itself under pressure.
- If you want tracking: the iO5 adds the app and position detection.
- If you prefer sonic: the Sonicare 4100 or 5900.
Is the iO3 worth it over the Pro 1000?
If the Pro 1000’s noise bothers you, or you need a visible pressure warning, yes. If neither applies and you want the cheapest long-term option, no. The cleaning gap is small; the comfort gap isn’t.
Price
On Amazon US it is now sold as the iO3 Limited bundle, with two spare heads and a travel case, for about $110 on October 30. In the UK the recommended price is far above what it usually sells for. Our deals page has the baseline prices.
The Amazon bundle, itemised
The iO3 that Amazon US sells (ASIN B0B5HRWH1S, model iO G3.2Q6.2KD) is the “Limited” bundle: the black handle, two heads, a travel case and the charger. That’s why it was about $110 on October 30 when older reviews quote $75 to $90. The two heads cover your first six months, and the case is a decent hard shell. Judge the price against the whole bundle, not the handle alone.
Daily use: ring, timer and head reminder
The light ring does three jobs. It shows your pressure, it marks the two-minute timer, and it tells you when the head is due for replacement, which Oral-B calls the refill change alert. Oral-B also advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee on the listing, which takes the risk out of trying an Oral-B if you’ve only used sonic brushes.
Which iO head to use
Start with the Ultimate Clean head that comes with it. If your gums are tender or receding, switch to Gentle Care, which has softer bristles and was about $12.20 a head in a four-pack. Radiant White is the polishing head for coffee and tea drinkers. All of them fit every iO handle from the iO2 to the iO10.
iO3 or Sonicare 4100 for the same buyer?
People comparing these two usually have healthy-ish gums and a budget under $120. The iO3 cleans tooth by tooth and shows you your pressure; the 4100 is softer, sonic, and costs about $60 less. If you have sensitive teeth or don’t like the feel of a spinning head, the 4100 is the better choice. If you scrub, the iO3’s light is the better teacher.
When to buy
The iO3 is discounted often. Black Friday falls on November 27, 2026, and our deals page records what it cost on October 30, so you can tell a real reduction from a re-labelled one. If it falls below about $90 for this bundle, buy it.
The iO3 is the brush we’d recommend to most adults: Oral-B’s best motor, the best pressure feedback, no fuss. Just be honest with yourself about head costs, and buy multipacks.
Other brushes in the frame
The iO3 is the baseline here. Plus lines are better, minus lines are worse, and both come off the spec sheet.

I already have heads. Will they fit a new handle?
Only inside the same family. Oral-B iO heads fit iO handles and nothing else, classic round heads fit every Oral-B that is not an iO, and any modern click-on Sonicare head fits any modern Sonicare handle.
What we checkedWe mapped every handle on this site to its head family and the price of a genuine pack.

Will it wake the person still asleep?
A classic geared Oral-B is the loudest brush here and it rattles through a wall. An iO or any sonic handle is a hum you can brush next to someone with.
What we checkedThe iO range swapped gears for a magnetic drive, which is the single biggest change in noise between Oral-B handles.

What people ask us next
Yes. It has the same iO motor as Oral-B’s flagships and a visible pressure light, without the expensive extras.
Does the iO3 connect to the app?
No. App connectivity starts with the iO5.
What’s the difference between iO2 and iO3?
The iO3’s light ring shows green when your pressure is right and red when you press too hard, and it adds a Whitening mode. The iO2 also slows down and signals red under pressure, starts on a Super Sensitive setting and costs about $50 less. See our iO2 vs iO3 comparison.
How long does the iO3 battery last?
About two weeks of twice-daily brushing.
Does the iO3 come with a travel case?
The bundle Amazon US sells does: two heads, a travel case and the charger.
Is the iO3 too strong for sensitive teeth?
Most sensitive mouths are fine on Sensitive mode with a Gentle Care head. If not, the iO2’s Super Sensitive setting is gentler still.
