Dyson CameraJet: price, what it does, and why we’d wait

Dyson’s first toothbrush has a camera in the head and a jet that sprays mouth rinse between your teeth. It costs $499.99 in the US, and within two weeks of launch it vanished from Dyson’s own stores in several countries.

The answer first

Wait for now. The Dyson electric toothbrush, CameraJet ($499.99 in the US), pairs a sonic brush with a camera-aimed jet that sprays rinse between your teeth, but sales were paused in several markets in September 2026 after reports of water getting inside. Dyson blamed one batch of jet tubes, says it is not a recall and that shipping has resumed. It isn’t sold on Amazon US; for brushing and water flossing in one device today, the Waterpik Sonic-Fusion 2.0 costs about $180.

Dyson unveiled the CameraJet on September 1, 2026, its first oral-care product after years of patent filings. It’s a fascinating piece of engineering. It also had one of the rockiest launches we’ve seen for a toothbrush.

What the CameraJet is

The CameraJet is a sonic toothbrush with two unusual additions:

  • A camera in the brush head. Reports describe a roughly 100,000-pixel macro camera capturing 28 images a second. Dyson calls the system Gap Optical Targeting: it looks for gaps between teeth as you brush.
  • A precision jet. When it finds a gap, it fires a burst of mouth rinse from a small tank into it, the idea being to clean between teeth without separate flossing. It’s designed to work with Dyson’s own low-foam toothpaste.

It connects to the MyDyson app. Dyson has said captured images are not saved or shared.

Price

$499.99 in the US, about £419.99 in the UK according to reports, and 479 euros or francs in parts of Europe. That’s more than Oral-B’s and Philips’ flagships combined in some sales.

The sales pause

Within days of launch, buyers reported problems: water getting into the battery compartment, units failing within a minute of use, overheating and charging trouble. Around September 11, Dyson’s French site and stores stopped selling it, followed by the US, UK and other markets, with “notify me” buttons in place of buy buttons.

Dyson told Bloomberg that one production batch of jet tubes had a process issue that created a potential for water seepage, affecting a small number of products, and apologised to affected customers. It hasn’t called it a recall. Reports in early October still showed it unavailable on Dyson’s US site, and Dyson said a new batch would reach US stores in the weeks after October 15. By late October, availability was patchy and differed by country.

What Dyson has said since

The CameraJet launched on September 1, 2026. Within about two weeks it was unavailable on Dyson’s US, UK and French websites, while owners posted reports of overheating, charging problems and water inside the battery compartment. Dyson’s first public explanation came on September 30: one production batch of the jet tubes had a manufacturing process issue that could let water seep into other parts of the brush and affect a small number of units. Dyson said it had isolated the affected products, was back in full production and was shipping again, and it has described the episode as not being a formal recall.

What that means for you: if you already own one and see water inside the handle or it gets hot while charging, stop using it and contact Dyson. If you’re thinking of buying, a first-batch fault that the maker has explained is less worrying than an unexplained one, but there’s no long-term owner history yet, and at this price there should be.

What’s in the box, and what it costs to run

The Dyson Dental System includes the CameraJet brush, a charging dock that also refills the jet reservoir, a travel case, and starter supplies of Dyson’s non-foaming toothpaste and low-foaming mouth rinse, which Dyson says are designed for the jet. The Dyson toothbrush price at launch was $499.99 in the US, £419.99 in the UK, €479 in France and A$799 in Australia. The heads are tagged so the app can tell you when to replace them, every three months. Dyson hasn’t published long-term running costs, and we’d expect the heads and the special toothpaste to cost more than a Sonicare’s.

How it compares with brushes you can buy today

The idea of brushing and water-flossing at once isn’t new: Waterpik introduced the Sonic-Fusion in 2018, and its current 2.0 version costs about $180 on Amazon US. The camera is the new part, aiming the jet at the gaps between your teeth instead of leaving it to you. If the CameraJet’s jet works as Dyson describes, it could help people with tight contacts or lots of dental work. If you just want cleaner gaps between your teeth, a $50 brush and a separate water flosser do that now.

Should you buy one?

Not yet, in our view. Three reasons:

  1. Reliability is unproven. The fix needs months of real-world use before anyone can say it worked.
  2. The core idea is untested independently. Targeted jets between teeth sound useful, but there’s no independent clinical evidence yet that the CameraJet cleans better than a good brush plus floss or a water flosser.
  3. The price. A top brush and a water flosser together cost a fraction of $499 and are proven.

What to buy instead

I already bought one. What now?

If it’s working, keep an eye on the charging area for moisture or corrosion and register it with Dyson so you hear about any service updates. If it has failed, contact Dyson support and keep records of your contact. Early buyers told Bloomberg that Dyson’s fix was a battery replacement.

Can you buy it on Amazon?

Not in the US, as of our check on October 30, 2026: a search for the CameraJet on Amazon US returned Sonicare and other brands’ brushes instead. If you’re set on one, buy direct from Dyson, where returns are simplest.

Is a $380 brush actually better than a $50 one?

Not at cleaning. Past a pressure warning and a timer you are paying for a quieter motor, a screen, a charging case and an app. Those are nice. They do not remove more plaque.

What we checkedThe $50 Pro 1000 and the $380 Prestige 9900 use the same two ideas: move the bristles faster than a hand can, and stop you pressing.

What $50 buys you now

Do I need the app and the sensors?

Most people open it for a week. The models that carry an app are worth buying for the extra modes, the charging case and the quieter drive, and you can treat the tracking as a free extra.

What we checkedThe iO9 maps 16 zones and the 7300 tracks brushing too, but both clean with the same heads and the same motors as the cheaper handles in their own ranges.

Which smart features earn their price

Odds and ends worth knowing

The Dyson CameraJet costs $499.99 in the US and around £419.99 in the UK.
Is the Dyson CameraJet available?

Sales were paused in several countries in September 2026 after water-seepage reports. Availability in late October 2026 was patchy; check Dyson’s site for your country.

Does the Dyson CameraJet save photos of your teeth?

Dyson has said captured images are not saved or shared.

Is the Dyson toothbrush worth it?

We’d wait until the reliability issue is clearly fixed and independent testing shows a real cleaning benefit.

Has the Dyson CameraJet been recalled?

Dyson says no. It paused sales in several markets in September 2026, blamed a batch of jet tubes for water seepage, and said on September 30 that it had resumed production and shipping.

Does the Dyson CameraJet need special toothpaste?

Dyson recommends its non-foaming toothpaste and low-foaming rinse with the jet, and includes starter supplies in the box.
